IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING TAX PAYMENTS


Property tax payments are due by January 31, 2024. 

The Town strongly encourages residents to mail tax payments to:

Town of Pleasant Springs
2354 County Highway N
Stoughton, WI 53589-2873
      

If you would like to pay your taxes in person, you may drop them in the drop box that is located in the front entryway at the above address during business hours. 

The Treasurer’s Office is open: 
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Dec 28- Jan 25: extended hours on Thursdays 10:00 am -6:00 pm 

If you would like a receipt, please include a self-stamped self-addressed envelope.

The Town Office will not be open on the following days in observance of the holidays:

  • Tuesday, December 24, 2024
  • Wednesday, December 25, 2024
  • Tuesday, December 31, 2024
  •  Wednesday, January 1, 2025 

Checks must be made payable to the "Town of Pleasant Springs Treasurer."

You may not combine dog license and tax payments; separate checks are required. Enclose a separate self-addressed stamped envelope for your dog license to be returned to you.

Please be sure your checks are properly endorsed. Do not mail cash. Credit and debit cards are not accepted. Third-party checks are not accepted.
 
We strongly urge you not to wait until the last day to make your payment.
 PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE FACT THE MAIL IS ROUTED THROUGH MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN, IT WILL TAKE LONGER FOR YOUR TAX PAYMENTS TO REACH US.
If your check is incorrect and must be returned to you for any reason, you risk having a delinquent payment because the check was not returned to the Treasurer, or postmarked, on or before the due date. 
 
  IF YOU MAIL YOUR PAYMENT:
 1.  Double check that the amount is correctly written in words and numbers on the check. Only the amount written in words will be credited by our bank.
 2.  Be sure your check is properly dated and signed.  Do not post-date checks.
 3.  Be sure check is made payable to “Town of Pleasant Springs Treasurer”
 4.  Be sure your check is properly endorsed.

All checks must be negotiable on the day the Treasurer receives it. Your check cannot be accepted for payment & will be returned to you if:
1.  The check is unsigned, or otherwise incomplete.
2.  The check is not properly endorsed.
3.  The date on the check is older than six months from the date it is received by the Treasurer. Beware of dating a 2024 check as 2023.
4.  The check is post-dated, that is, dated for a date after the Treasurer receives it. We cannot hold checks for a future payment date. 
5.  The check is improperly made payable to anyone other than the “Town of Pleasant Springs Treasurer”.

Payments that are postmarked, or received in person, at the Pleasant Springs Treasurer’s Office by December 31, 2023 will be credited in 2023.  Payments that are postmarked or received in person at the Treasurer’s Office by January 31, 2024 are considered timely and will be credited as of January 31, 2024. 

Taxes are not considered paid until all checks have cleared all banks.

 If your check is returned to the Town for any reason, such as insufficient funds, all bank fees will be charged to you.

If the Treasurer must return your check for any reason, the corrected check will be credited on the day it is received, not the date of original mailing.

If an overpayment of the total real estate tax occurs, the Treasurer will prepare a check to return the overpayment to the property owner only after all checks have cleared all banks. No overpayments are returned to anyone but the property owner.  All checks must be approved by the Town Board at their regularly scheduled meetings, and are mailed on the day after the meeting.

To change your mailing address for your tax bill, check the “change billing address” box on the portion of the tax bill you are mailing to the Township and write in the updated address.

CONTESTING YOUR ASSESSMENT: BOARD OF REVIEW NOTICE
Anyone with property located in the Town of Pleasant Springs wishing to contest real or personal property at the Board of Review will need to submit a written objection to the Clerk, no later than 48 hours prior to Board of Review. Objection information and forms can be obtained on the Town website, or at the Clerk’s office during office hours. *Please make sure you have contacted Accurate Appraisal prior to submitting Objection forms for the Board of Review. Sometimes (not always) Accurate Appraisal can adjust the value of your property if they feel there is a valid case, or provide you with necessary information regarding your property.
